Program Overview
As K-12 education faces a wide array of fundamental challenges, educators with advanced degrees, certifications, and endorsements are in high demand.
Earning a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from King’s College online will enhance your approach to developing energized and inclusive curricula and instructional competencies in the classroom, inspire your development, and position you as a leader who can incorporate learning trends, best practices, and address complex issues across several concentration areas.
To earn a master's in curriculum and instruction, choose from one of six different Curriculum and Instruction degree concentrations, five of which include Pennsylvania certifications or endorsements (only available to educators who hold a Pennsylvania teaching certification and who have completed the required coursework and applicable exams):
English as a Second Language + Program Specialist Certification*
School Leadership + Principal Leadership Certification
Specialized Education
STEM + STEM Education Plan Endorsement
Teacher Apprenticeship Program
In the Teacher Apprenticeship Program, students with four-year degrees outside of the education field can earn a secondary (7-12) teaching certification and a master’s degree quickly and tuition-free while being paid as full-time paraprofessionals working in the classroom.
To begin the program, apprentices must accept employment as a paraprofessional at one of our partner districts, which currently include Scranton School District, Wallenpaupack School District, and Jim Thorpe School District. Interested and qualified paraprofessionals already employed by our partner districts will receive preference for the limited number of available apprentice positions. The program will take approximately 14 months to complete, during which time apprentices will work full-time as teacher’s aides and take education coursework primarily online after working hours and during weekends (there is also some in-person coursework which will take place during the first summer). After completing coursework and passing the state-mandated exam, apprentices will earn a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Teaching Excellence degree, and receive an Instructional I certificate, which licenses them to teach throughout Pennsylvania (and enables speedy reciprocity for teaching certification in 48 states).
Application Requirements
Applicants will need to demonstrate some evidence of content-area expertise in the field in which they are pursuing certification, which may include a review of candidates’ undergraduate transcript if undergraduate studies correspond with the desired content area.
